Volvo is a Swedish concern. Main production: commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, engines and miscellaneous equipment. Previously, Volvo also produced passenger cars, but in 1999 sold its passenger car division under the name Volvo Personvagnar to Ford, which in 2010 resold it to Geely. The company's office is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. The company was founded in 1915 by Assar Gabrielson and Gustaf Larson, a subsidiary of the renowned SKF bearing manufacturer. On April 14, 1927, the first production car Jakob OV4 was produced (with a 28 hp engine, maximum speed 90 km / h). In 1956, the export of Swedish cars to the United States began (in 1957, 5000 Volvo cars were sold in the United States), the volume of car production increased (31,000 copies in 1956, 205,000 units in 1971). It should be noted that during these years Niels Ivar Bolin, the author of three-point seat belts, worked for Volvo. The Volvo PV444 and P120 Amazon models are the first in the world to be equipped with these elements. The Volvo concern has been the manufacturer of the safest cars in the world since 1989. Volvo is currently a Swedish supplier of trucks, buses and construction equipment, marine propulsion systems, space components and financial services. Official sales of Volvo cars in the USSR started in 1989, although truck tractors for the needs of Sovtransavto have been purchased since the mid-1970s. On January 19, 2009 in Kaluga, production was launched at the new Volvo plant
